I did not plan to feature two card designers one after another, but while writing the post about "Hugs With Smiles", I saw this cute elephant in an Etsy Treasury, and could not resist the love hearts it was blowing from his trunk:)Ruby Wren Designs is a small business in the UK specialising in greeting cards. The creative person behind it is artist Hayley Mitchell, who designs and handmades every single card. What is more, she even handcuts the patterns into the cards' fronts!

Ruby Wren cards are unique in many ways. First of all, they captivate the attention with their stylish design. The patterns are elegant, simplistic and versatile. You can use them for virtually any occassion - Valentine, wedding, birthday, anniversary, etc. Each design comes in many different colours.Secondly, they are environmentally friendly and ethical. Here comes the most intriguing part: they are made with ‘Ellie Poo®’ paper, a type of card produced from recycled paper and... elephant poo. It is manufactured in the UK in a traditional paper mill by a small company called "Exotic Paper".
The following text is from the "About" page of the Ruby Wren web site:
"Elephants are herbivores which means their waste is very clean - using poo from a meat-eater wouldn't be suitable due to the bugs and waste meat. Everyone who has touched, felt and smelt our cards using the ElliePoo Card have always been pleasently surprised! It's soft, clean and smells of...well, paper! Elephant Poo is obviously a waste product and will rot very easily.
Elephants around the world are used as working animals and as they get older, they become less "useful" and are considered a 'burden'. The Exotic Paper company who make the Ellie Poo paper support The Millennium Foundation in Sri Lanka who home and look after these old elephants. By using Ellie Poo paper in our cards, we're helping the Exotic Paper company to continue their support. We love elephants!"
I am truly impressed by Hayley's concept and designs. You can see more of them here:
